Pearls, pearls …Coco Chanel made them fashionable by wearing loads of them. Actually scratch that, they were in style since forever… remember “The girl with the pearl earring”? Now, pearls are everywhere. Literally. Shoes, clothes, buttons you just have to decide and pick just one. I’ll start by saying what not to wear– the pants, or jeans with pearls all over. First of all I think they are TOO much, they look weird, like you have a disease or something AND they make your legs look thicker.
NOW, for the pieces that are stylish and are going to bring freshness into your wardrobe. The first two items come from Zara.
The Pearly finish jacket can be worn at the office paired with a pair of wide leg trousers, a pencil skirt or a pair of dark wash straight leg jeans and classic pumps. For after hours go for a pair of faded jeans and kitten heels.
The black pants with frays and pearls are appropriate in a creative office environment, paired with a white button down or a black turtle neck for more drama. For a date night outfit go with a silk camisole and a leather jacket -its all about playing with different fabrics and finishes. Keep the look monochromatic, so it conveys sophistication.
For vacation, weekend, sight seeing or a gallery opening (paired with leather leggings) pick Maison Margiela’s white shirt. It looks classically tailored but it turns to reveal a waist-cinching strand of glossy faux pearls looped through the back – it’s a cool and glamorous way to tap the season’s love of pearls. Forgo a jacket to keep the unexpected detailing in focus. Pair it with white boots or slingbacks.
For a special event you can choose any of the next two pieces. If you want to minimize your hips, pick Philip Lim Cold-shoulder faux pearl-embellished silk-satin blouse also here in black. The embellishments will be the focus of the outfit and will draw the eyes up. Bonus points, you don’t have to add ANY jewelry.
If you just want to dip your toes into the pearl trend (pun intended) pick this Stuart Weitzman faux pearl-embellished velvet slippers. They will go wonderfully with a kimono, and a pair of silk palazzo pants. They’re the perfect party shoe for those moments when you want to be stylish yet super comfortable.
Don’t forget to enjoy your pearls. Tell me what is your favorite piece? do you have any questions? I’ll be happy to answer them for you.
